Neighbors for a Safer Imperial County is a citizen-led effort supporting the 2026 Imperial County Public Safety Sales and Use Tax Initiative.

If this initiative qualifies for the ballot, it would provide vitally needed locally controlled funding for public safety and emergency services in Imperial County. All funds would stay local to benefit Imperial County residents, businesses and communities.

About the Initiative

The initiative proposes a one-half of one percent (0.5%) countywide sales and use tax for public safety and emergency services in Imperial County. Revenues would be deposited into a dedicated Public Safety Fund with limited authorized uses.

Authorized uses include:

  • Upgrading aging fire stations and/or constructing new fire station facilities
  • Improving emergency operations and 911 response facilities
  • Supporting sheriff and public safety facilities
  • Purchasing fire engines, ambulances, and other emergency equipment
  • Maintaining and repairing County-owned public safety facilities

Imperial County faces serious public safety challenges, from aging fire stations and outdated emergency communications systems to ambulance response times that can stretch to an hour in some parts of the county. This initiative would help provide locally controlled funding to improve emergency response, modernize public safety infrastructure, and better protect Imperial County families and communities.
